On arrival Paraflights staff will fit life-jackets and a comfortable hands free harness. The iconic big yellow smiley faced chute is inflated above the vessel and flyers are attached to the chute on the deck, as the boat speed increases to 25 km p/h the chute lifts you up and away from the boat to enjoy the exhilaration of free flight.

From here you will soar above Lake Wakatipu with breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and Queenstown itself. Choose whether to stay bone dry or test the water temperature a little for a little extra excitement.

A perfect adventure activity for the whole family, Paraflights can take up to 12 passengers on the boat so you can sit back and enjoy the cruise on Lake Wakatipu while another flight takes place.

Paraflights is owner operated, ensuring customer services of the highest order. These guys know Queenstown like the back of their hands, so take the time to pick their brains on some of town’s hidden gems.

How long does the trip last?

  • Please allow 1 hour for the round trip. This includes 10 minutes of flying time. The rest of your time will be spent cruising around Lake Wakatipu giving you time to enjoy the beautiful scenery Queenstown has to offer.
  • Please call 1 hour prior to you departure time for a weather check and check in on the Main Town Pier 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

What age is considered a child?

  • 15 years and under is the child rate.

Is there a minimum age?

  • Yes – Children need to be over 12 years of age and over 60kgs in order to fly without an adult.
  • Children can fly tandem or triple with an adult once they weigh over 20kgs.

Is there a maximum age limit?

  • No! No one is too old to fly.

Where do your trips depart from?

  • Trips leave from the Main Town Pier in Queenstown. This is at the lake end of the Queenstown Mall in front of Eichardts Hotel.

What should I wear?

  • Please wear clothing suitable to the conditions on the day you are coming flying. On a warm day you can wear shorts and t shirts. Extra layers, such as hats and gloves will be required in winter. Please note they do not supply extra clothing.

Will I get wet?

  • No – You will Fly High and Stay Dry the whole time. Swim wear and towels are not required.

What are your weight restrictions?

  • They can fly up to a maximum combined weight of 200kg (440 lbs). If you exceed this weight limit you will not be able to fly and we will need to alter your booking.
  • For solo flights they have a minimum weight requirement of 60kg (143 lbs).
  • Please note, as this is a weather dependent activity, these weight limits can change depending on lake conditions on any given day.

Is my trip weather dependent?

  • Yes, Queenstown Paraflights is a weather dependent activity and for this reason we ask you to call us one hour before your flight for a weather check. If the weather is not suitable at the time of your scheduled flight we will do everything we can to reschedule you for another time or day.

Is there somewhere I can leave my personal belongings?

  • You can bring everything with you on-board the boat. It will be very safe on-board while you are flying.

Can my friends or family spectate?

  • Spectators can come to watch for a small fee of $25. This is on a space available basis and can not be guaranteed until 5 minutes before departure time. You can pay this fee on the day if space is available. 

Can I bring my camera/phone/Go-Pro?

  • Yes – you can bring any of these items with you while you fly. This is at your own risk and Queenstown Paraflights will not take responsibility for any lost or damaged items.

Are the instructors and crew specially trained, experienced and or licensed?

Yes! All of our instructors and boat drivers are specifically trained in all aspects of parasailing boat handling, flight procedures and local wind and weather patterns, all with many years of flight experience, some of the best in the world!

Is it difficult?

No, if you can sit you can fly! No experience or talent is necessary, they do all the work, and you have all the fun!

Are reservations recommended?

Yes! Due to the popularity of our ride and limited space available (12 passenger's maximum per trip) reservations are recommended.

What are the age limits?

The minimum age is two years old, subject to staff approval as they must ensure that our small harness will fit correctly for smaller children.

What are the weight limitations?

This depends on the wind conditions at the time of your flight. The minimum weight is about 60 kgs for a Solo flight and the maximum weight is approximately 200 kg.

What type of parasailing do we offer?

"Winch Direct Parasailing" the most widely accepted form of parasailing in the world today. The type of Parasailing which allows you to safely take-off and land from on board the boat not off the beach or a floating barge as seen in Mexico and many other resorts.
Utilizing a hydraulic winch, you are slowly reeled out from the flight deck located on the boat, after an incredible and scenic flight you are then reeled back to the boat's flight deck.

I have heard that you also offer parasailing flights for disabled?

True, they have with great success flown people in the past with various physical disabilities and are proud to claim that parasailing truly is one of the few activities where disabled are able to enjoy themselves without being affected by their physical handicap.
