Wilderness Jet

An exhilarating and spectacular journey deep into the heart of the world-renowned Mt Aspiring National Park with the only jet boat operator allowed on the Dart River. 

The sheer diversity of what’s on offer means you experience a unique combination of breathtaking scenery matched with exciting jet boating on braided, glacier-fed rivers. Highly informative guides add the personal touch, talking about the area’s history, the Greenstone trail and Maori legends.

Walk amongst ancient beech forest unchanged for 80 million years and view the scenic backgrounds for many Middle Earth movie scenes. An authentic New Zealand experience in an untouched world.

Dart Stables

Operating exceptionally beautiful horse treks for over 20 years, Dart Stables explore Glenorchy on horseback,  known for its natural, untouched scenery which have been showcased in many a big screen movie like the infamous Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Gaining a well-earned reputation for providing memorable horse riding in this stunning part of New Zealand, Dart Stables has over 60 horses of various breeds, knowledgable and enthusiastic guides with a wealth of experience and horse treks for all levels of rider.

TWO RIDING TOUR OPTIONS:

  • The River Wild: 2 Hours
    A beautiful 2 hour trek alongside braided, glacial fed rivers, this adventure offers spectacular scenery and is suitable for a range of rider abilities.

  • Hobbit's Hack: 1 Hour
    A fantastic introduction to horse riding ideal for all abilities. A gentle, walking paced trek across the Dart River Bed. Overlooked by stunning mountains, this trek offers incredible vistas up into the Mount Aspiring National Park.

INCLUDES:

  • Over 1 hour Jetboat ride on the Dart River
  • Guided 30 minute forest walk
  • Guided back road coach through Paradise
  • Your choice of 1 or 2 hour Horse Trek
  • All gear provided - Drizabone coats, boots, gloves and safety helmets
  • Free Transport option from Queenstown to Glenorchy

DURATION:

  • Queenstown return - 10 hours
  • Glenorchy return - 3 hours for Jet boat, then a break for lunch before your 1 hour or 2 hour horse ride.

DEPARTS: 

Everyday of the year, weather permitting.

  • Queenstown - 8:00AM 
  • Glenorchy – 9.00AM

CHECK IN/PICK UPS:

Pick ups and drop offs are provided on a scheduled transport circuit and pick up from most central Queenstown accommodation. You can also choose to self drive to the Dart River base in Glenorchy. This is a good option for those wanting more flexibility in their schedule or wish to explore Glenorchy after the tour.

Queenstown

  • Complimentary bus transfers departs from the Queenstown Information Centre - corner Camp and Shotover Streets, Queenstown.

Glenorchy

  • Trip departs from the Dart River Jet Safaris Visitor Centre - Mull Street, Glenorchy.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Year round – Please ensure you wear suitable supportive footwear. The guided walk is 30 minutes long on a rolling track through the forest.
  • Summer – Sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, camera and warm outer layer recommended.
  • Winter – Wear warm clothing plus hat, gloves, windproof outer jacket, insect repellent and sunglasses
  • Riding: Comfortable full length trousers.
    • Riding boots or a sturdy shoe with a low heel. For safety reasons you won’t be permitted to ride in flat soled shoes with no heel but don't worry you can use a pair of their boots (just bring an extra pair of thick socks with you).
    • Sunglasses
    • Sunscreen
    • Extra pair of thick socks
    • Jumper/fleece and a pair of gloves during the cooler months
    • Small camera which has a neck or belt strap. If you don’t have either make sure you bring a jacket/top/trousers with a zip up pocket which can accommodate your small camera.
    • .. and for the gentlemen, good fitting underwear (trust us on this one!)

THEY PROVIDE:

  • Jet Boat: Spray jackets and Life jackets - PFD
  • For Riding: Riding helmet (compulsory)
    • Calf length boots with a formed heel
    • Gloves in cold weather
    • Drizabone & riding jackets on windy or damp days 

AGE & HEIGHT:

  • Jetboat: Minimum child height of 1 metre applies irrespective of child age.
  • Horse riding Child ages: 1 hour Hobbits' Hack = 5 to 15 years 
  • Horse riding Child ages: 2 hour River Wild = 7 to 15 years 
  • Maximum weight of 95kg applies for Dart Stables
