Book - Kawarau Bridge Bungy

THE WORLD'S ORIGINAL BUNGY JUMP

The Kawarau Bridge Bungy is the World Home of Bungy Jumping. It was from this site in 1988 that Bungy pioneers AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch launched both themselves and an international phenomenon, which has become renowned as one of the most exhilarating things to do in Queenstown - the adventure capital of the world.

This has been the world's best known and best loved Bungy Jump for more than 20 years and it continues to set pulses racing amongst the extreme enthusiasts who visit from all corners of the globe, whether young in age or young at heart.

If you want to be tied up & thrown off with a friend, then this is the site for you, as it offers Queenstown's only tandem Bungy Jump. Just remember that sharing the thrill doesn't mean halving the fear! Once on the edge, poised 47 metres above the stunning Kawarau River, your final choice is clear - how wet do you want to get?

BUNGY STATS:

  • World's 1st Commercial Bungy Jump
  • 43m Jump off the historic Kawarau Bridge
  • Queenstown's Only Tandem Bungy
  • Bob above the water, touch it or get dunked!
  • Free Jumper T-shirt
  • This is the only Bungy in the area where you can do a water touch, so if you’re into the water or want the full experience then this is the Bungy for you. It can be as easy as a hand in the water or it can clean your belt buckle.
  • If you’re self-driving into town, chances are you'll go past the Kawarau Bridge. So if you’re thinking about doing a jump and you're time conscious, stop in and start your trip to Queenstown with a bang.
  • An easy one to spectate on, so if you’re not keen to jump yourself but want to support a crazy friend then this is one of the most accessible action sports in Queenstown to get to with your own car.

What age do I have to be to Bungy Jump or Swing?

All Bungy jumpers and swingers must be at least 10 years old.

What are the weight and height restrictions for a Bungy and Swing?

There are no height restrictions on Bungy jumping or swinging.
Kawarau Bridge Bungy - 35kg min/235 kg max.

What is the difference between a Bungy and a Swing?

A Bungy jump utilises AJ Hackett's custom made Bungy Cords. After free-falling the cord stretches out to allow you to bounce a few times in an adrenalin fuelled but safe manner. Whilst the Swing attaches to you via wire cables and the Swing rope, swingers never bounce. After a short free fall the wire or rope catches you and the sensation is the same as a roller-coaster and you will swing in a massive arc.

Can I touch the water?

Water touch can be done at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy. Although, AJ Hackett cannot guarantee a water touch as Jump styles do vary.

Do I have to wear shoes?

Covered footwear is mandatory for the Nevis Bungy. As for the Kawarau Bridge Bungy, The Ledge and the Nevis Swing, you may choose to wear shoes or go barefoot.

Can my friends and family come watch me?

Absolutely! All the AJ Hackett Bungy sites have the capacity to host spectators too. Depending on which site it is, there can be costs associated with spectating.

Can I drive myself?

Yes...you can drive to the Kawarau Bridge Bungy. Located on SH6 in the Gibbston Valley, just 20 minutes from Queenstown.

How long does it take?

We recommend you to allow at least 2 ½ hours for the Kawarau Bridge Bungy.

Do I need to book ahead?

We strongly suggest to all customers that they book at least 48hrs in advance for all activities to ensure that they secure a time and date that best suits them.

Where is the Kawarau Bridge Bungy Site?

It is located along State Highway #6, in the Gibbston Valley, the main highway on your way from Cromwell, Dunedin and Christchurch. It is located just 20 minutes outside of Queenstown.

What's the difference between the 3 Bungy Sites in Queenstown?

The main difference is the size; the Nevis Bungy is almost 3 times higher than the Kawarau Bridge and Ledge Bungy sites. The Nevis is the big one, 134m of pure adrenaline action, wearing a full body harness that attaches at both your waist and feet.

The Kawarau Bungy is the original. The only site that allows you to get wet if your heart desires and the only one where you are lowered down into a raft after your jump. It is also the only site in Queenstown where you can tandem Bungy!

The Ledge Bungy is the only site where your feet are not tied together. It is a full body harness jump that allows you do a freestyle jump, back flips or run off the ledge.

I want to go tandem, can I?

Yes, the Kawarau Bridge Bungy has tandem Bungy options.

What are the restrictions for a Tandem Bungy?

The maximum combined weight at the Kawarau is 235KG. There cannot be more than a 30KG difference between the weights of the two jumpers. Please note that other considerations will be taken into account on the day such as height difference and the weather. AJ Hackett cannot guarantee until the day of your jump that you will be able to do it tandem. However, they will work with you to ensure that you are taken care of.

Can I jump if i have a medical condition?

Please inform the AJ Hackett Bungy Crew if you have any of the following conditions: High & Low Blood Pressure, Heart Condition, Epilepsy, Pregnancy, Fragile Skin, Neurological Disorder, Bone Disorder, Dislocations, Diabetes, Asthma, Prosthetics, Cosmetic Implants, Panic/Anxiety Attack, Recent Sprains & Muscular Injuries. These conditions do not necessarily exclude a person from Bungy/ Catapult/Swings. It is important for all customers to declare any of the above medical conditions when they check in. For any other pre-existing medical condition please talk to the expert Bungy crew and they will make an assessment on a case by case basis. Please bring any relevant written doctors’ advice with you.
