Book - Hot Air Balloon Flight

As we rise to altitudes as high as 6000ft and drift with the breeze, you will witness quite possibly the best panoramic views of Queenstown and its surrounds - “The Hobbit” filming locations, Southern Alps, Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables mountain range, NZ’s finest golf courses and much, much more!

Queenstown's four distinct seasons offer beautiful scenery all year round, so make this your opportunity to get some of the most stunning photographs you will ever take.

Sunrise Balloons encourage passengers to assist the crew to inflate the balloon and also to help pack it away after the flight. Celebrate your once-in-a-lifetime experience with a delightful champagne breakfast celebration with pastries and muffins in the field after your flight.

INCLUDES:

  • Pickup and drop off to Queenstown or Arrowtown accommodation
  • Hot Air Balloon Flight - approx 1 hour in the air
  • Bubbles and light breakfast including juice, tea, coffee, hot choc, croissants, danishes & muffins.

DEPARTS:

Dawn - Sunrise time is dependent on time of year. Flights can start as early as 5AM in summer through to 8.30AM in winter. You will be instructed on pickup time with booking confirmation.

DURATION: 3.5 - 4 hours

  • Warm clothing and hat, sensible footwear & camera

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Hot air ballooning is weather dependent; therefore we recommend a ballooning trip near the start of your stay in Queenstown. This gives you the chance to re-book if the weather is not suitable on your chosen day.
  • Maximum weight for each passenger is 136 kgs or 300 lbs or 21.50 stone.
  • Child Age: Between 4 and 12 years old. 13+ is charged as an adult rate. 
  • Passengers will be standing for the duration of the flight.
  • In-flight photos and video will be available for purchase on USB at the landing site.
  • Cancellation Policy: If your plans change a cancellation fee applies. A $200 fee applies per passenger if you cancel within 48 hours of flight for small groups or within 7 days of flight for larger groups of 5+ persons. If you cancel within 24 hours of flight, full amount of fare applies. If flight is cancelled by Sunrise Balloons due to unsuitable weather conditions, there is no charge. You may re-book for another day on a space available basis, if you have time. Ballooning is weather dependent and we will only fly if weather conditions are suitable.

WHEN DO YOU FLY

Flights are at dawn when the air is cool and calm.

DO YOU FLY ALL YEAR ROUND

Yes, flights are all year round, seven days a week, weather permitting.

HOW LONG IS THE FLIGHT

The whole trip, from pickup and return to your accommodation takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. Which includes, a 1 hour (approx) flight and a delicious champagne breakfast in the field where we land - with champagne, tea, coffee, juice, danishes, muffins and fruit.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE

There are views of Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski areas, Mount Aspiring in the Southern Alps and Mount Tutoko in Fiordland National Park.

You will also see Lake Wakatipu, Lake Hayes, the Shotover and Kawarau Rivers. Some locations used in "The Lord Of The Rings" can also be seen, for example, The Ford Of Bruinen; Dimrill Dale; The Gates of Argonath; The Pillars Of The Kings. Also visible is Mount Earnslaw, one of the great mountains seen in Isengard.

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE DURING THE FLIGHT

Sunrise Balloons only fly in calm conditions and the sensation is one of peace and tranquility as you drift gently along with the breeze.

WHAT DO I WEAR

Dress appropriately for the season, bearing in mind this is an outdoor activity.

Tramping boots or sports shoes are recommended. High heels and sandals are not suitable. Bring a warm hat!

IS PREVIOUS BALLOONING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY

No, not at all, everyone is welcome.

CAN WE BRING CAMERA AND VIDEO GEAR

Yes, but bring twice as much memory as you think you will need.

They also have in-flight photos and video available for purchase on USB at the landing site.
