Skippers Canyon - Journey down this breathtaking, unique and historic canyon.

Journey along the world renowned Skippers Canyon Road, carved and blasted through sheer rock walls to access the goldfields of the Shotover River. Weave and wind down Long Gully while your experienced and professional driver delivers information about this dramatic mountainous landscape and the hardy gold miners that made this area home. Marvel over Mt Aurum at the head of the valley as the turbulent waters of the Shotover River carve their way down the sheer sided walls of the canyon below. There will be plenty of time to stop along the way for photo opportunities of the stunning natural vistas and gold mining relics.

Wakatipu Discovery of the Rings - Come enjoy a slice of middle earth with the action of a 4x4 adventure!

Never was an area more tailor-made to make Tolkien’s fantasy vision a reality on the big screen. This Lord of the Rings tour will take you through numerous chapters from the trilogy’s and multiple other movies cinematic home, utilising off-road vehicles to their limits to reach the directors’ perfect spots. Our knowledgeable local guides have plenty of information on the movies as well as extensive commentary on the areas you are visiting. Even those who missed the movies will be spellbound by the scenery of the Wakatipu Basin.

Glenorchy Discovery of the Rings - Travel to Paradise, literally! The ultimate Middle Earth scenic tour. 

The tour begins with a breath-taking journey along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to the township of Glenorchy. At this stage you will have the option of meandering through the quant sleepy town’s lakefront or enjoying a short stop visiting Glenorchy Animal Experience where with a stunning backdrop you can enjoy fun encounters with a wide variety of friendly farm animals (extra cost $15pp). After which you will literally arrive in Paradise for a complementary picnic lunch with the glacial lakes, ancient forests and neck stretching peaks of the film trilogy being your domain while our guides give you insight into the vision of Jackson and Tolkien alike.

What do they provide?
Late to latest model vehicles, all clients are guaranteed forward facing seats, hot drinks and light snacks are supplied on all trips. An awesome adventure.

What will I need to bring?
Clothing to suit the weather conditions, sunglass, suitable footwear, camera and a sense of adventure and humour.

What if it's raining?
They operate in all weather, rain hail or shine! It's always a great trip regardless of the weather. Like anything, it's what you make it! Remember, fortune favours the brave!

How many people can Off Road Adventures cater for and how many people per vehicle?
Off Road Holdings uses Toyota Troop Carriers with 7 clients per vehicle. They have 5 vehicles and can cater for 35 clients, plus also operate Toyota VX Cruiser seating a further 4 clients giving a total of 39 clients.
