Book - Routeburn Track Guided Day Walk

GUIDED WALK ON THE FAMOUS ROUTEBURN TRACK

This great walk in Mount Aspiring National Park is a gradual ascent through 130 million year old magical world of ferns, mosses, lichens & beech forest. Explore forgotten paths of the Maori, as you travel along their old Greenstone trails, finding new enchantment around each corner, where native birds abound.

A journey to the head of Lake Wakatipu is the ideal preparation for the splendour of the world-famous Routeburn Track walk. Your day walk begins among towering ancient beech, climbing gradually through blankets of forest moss and fern and skirting the thundering Routeburn River through the gorge it has carved over the millennia.

Just 2.5 hours walk later the woodland parts to reveal the rich grassland of Routeburn Flats, overlooked on all sides by cloud-scraping mountains, some so high they have permafrost. The Flats is a pristine site to stop for lunch.

After a delicious Kiwi style picnic lunch you turn and enjoy the valley in reverse. Native and migratory birds welcome your return to the forest and a plentiful array of species will accompany your journey back to civilization.

What do I need to bring on a Guided Nature Walk?

Sensible footwear - closed toe trainers or boots (no sandals or jandals) warm or sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, waterproof / windproof / warm clothing for changeable weather, small day pack and remember to bring your camera & a smile!

What is provided for me on the Guided Nature walks?

All transport to and from your Queenstown accommodation, snacks including tea/coffee and cookies. Friendly, knowledgeable & cheerful local guides provide interpretative commentary of flora, fauna, history and geology. Lunch & bottled water are provided on full day hikes.

How fit do I need to be?

All of Guided Nature Walks tours are designed for averagely fit people who do at least some walking. The oldest person to walk with them was 74 years old and the youngest was 6 years old.

Do you cater for children?

Yes they do. Guided Nature Walks encourage people with children to take a private walk rather than have the hassles of walking with others. This way you can walk at you own pace & your children's interests can be catered for. Child price is 8 - 14years.
