Queenstown Bike Park season open

And so it begins! Yep that’s right the season of shred has kicked off in Queenstown early this year with the Queenstown Bike Park bringing forward it’s opening date to 18th September. With a season that now extends right through to 3rd May, $699 buys you seven and a half months of all access biking.

Winter has seen some serious fluffing going on in the park, with mountains of dirt moved and re-sculptured to produce some seriously world class riding. The park now boasts over 14 marked trails with everything from the ultra flowey Hammy’s green run, right through to World Cup which I’m sure the name speaks volumes for.

Ride with a local for a day though and you’ll see that there are far more than just 14 trails on the mountain. Look beyond the bermed corners and the dense pine forest holds a magnitude of slightly more ‘organic’ trails, trails gauged through the undergrowth by the cover of darkness, with hand cut lines and skidded in corners.

While still in its infancy it’s fair to say that Queenstown Bike Park has something for absolutely everyone and is in a state of constant evolution.

It’s also worth pointing out that should you be tight on funds, the park is not solely accessible by Gondola. From Lomond crescent the access road for the Gondola is open for foot traffic and bike access all year round. So if you don’t mind earning the turn or keen to develop legs and lungs of steel then take on the challenge of the road. The post ride beer at Atlas Beer Café will have never tasted so sweet.

Skyline Mountain Biking Gondola passes will set you back $60 half day, $85 full day and $199 for a 3 day all access pass.
