Wye Creek Track

Posted by Kate Fahey: 27th Apr 2017 @ 14:38:31

It's been a long time in between visits and Wye Creek Track has just blown me away all over again, I can't believe I've waited so long to return.

Located just 15 minutes from the Queenstown Airport, Wye Creek is on the road south to Kingston along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The trail head is marked on the side of the road with 2WD access to a car park at the base of the mountain and 4WD gaining a head start on the elevation with a very small car park about half way up. Needless to say if you've got a 4WD then you're not going to regret it!

The track is steep with lots of rocky steps and can be sometimes slippery. I recommend that you are fit and injury free for this one. You will walk through stunning native forest, across waterfalls and to wide open spaces that command exceptional views over Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding Queenstown region. If you are lucky you will get some free entertainment watching the keen (sometimes crazy!) rock climbers navigate the huge cliff walls that surround Wye Creek.

Take a picnic and soak up the outdoors!
